Located in the heart of Auckland CBD’s business district, Hugo’s Bistro offers true all-day dining, from early morning coffee and inspired lunch service, through to afternoon Aperitivo with friends and sophisticated, European-inspired evening fare.

Beautiful ingredients are simply but thoughtfully prepared over our open charcoal fire, with a lighter style of classical cooking made with exceptional New Zealand produce.

Our historic Shortland Street dining room blends luxury and subtlety, with spots perfect for a morning perch for exceptional coffee and cosy nooks for intimate dinners.

Originally from Lancashire, Sophie and Alfie travelled to New Zealand together in 2012 living in Wanaka. After being inspired by New Zealand’s easy elegance and timeless approach to good food and good people, they decided to settle in Auckland.  

Having worked in some on the best restaurants in Auckland – Alfie joined the Hugo’s team in 2019, followed a few months later by Sophie.

Alfie creates modern takes on bistro classics, with a focus on seasonality and ethically-sourced ingredients mixed with innovative ideas and flourishes. This is paired with Sophie’s concise but thoughtful wine list, focusing on small producers doing something a little different.

HUGO’S AT HOME

Changing weekly with new menus announced on Mondays. 

We’re bringing our flatbreads to your home in the form of a meal kit to feed two people. This week the flatbread is smothered in a bone marrow & parsley butter ready to be refreshed in your oven at home. It will be topped with venison kofta, served in a tray ready to pop in the oven. Finished with a horseradish cream, parsley, pickled shallots & capers. 

A special limited addition this week of a Squid ink & Octopus Flatbread Kit with Kina butter & Chilli (now SOLD OUT)

We are also offering our raclette flatbread with honey & thyme, a zingy carrot & cabbage slaw, our duck liver parfait, whipped hapuka roe and a weekly changing tart for something sweet. 

Hugo’s Chilli Crisp is also available to purchase.

Collection 3-6pm Friday to Sunday. Flatbreads should be eaten on the day of purchase.

We can seat 38 people at our tables and a further 18 at the bar.

We are closed to the public on weekends, with exclusive hire possible on Saturday and Sunday.

We are able to work with you and your budget and tastes, whether you prefer a shared banquet or a special menu exclusive to you and your guests.
